There comes a point in your life as a parent that your son is ashamed of being kissed by you in public. Or your teenage daughter does not want to bring you to the department store to buy new clothes. They want to be with their classmates often. Well, that is a natural thing. They need to break away from you for a bit. And this helps them become independent and decide on their own as they grow older.
Teens need to establish their own identity. Independence is important to them. But make sure they are with the good crowd or else your teenager might end up going with friends with bad influence and rebel against you.
Know their crowd
You may want to invite their friends for a barbecue weekend at home. This way, you get to meet and understand his friends more rather than not allowing him to see them.
Do not impose or this will cause backfire. Decide together as a family so that there is a clear and good communication among you. Be reasonable so that your teenager will think that you are fair with regards to punishment.
Know their whereabouts
Discuss with them on how to inform you about their whereabouts. Do not nag. If they go out at night, make them call you so that you won’t worry.
Drugs and Sex
Communicate. The best thing to do with teenagers regarding these risks is to talk to them and by not evading sensitive topics. They must know the worst things that may happen if they are not careful with their lives.
Like all parents, being a role model entails hard work. Your acts are critical in honing your teenager’s character development. That’s why showing them good acts and habits will prevent them from making bad decisions in life eventually.
