One time, I bragged in one of my blogs my favorite fast food chain here in the Philippines—Jollibee. This is not a re-echo or a re-post about the things that I’ve written about Jollibee before. I just want to share my thoughts about their new product. It’s not even a new product. It’s just an innovation of their existing product.
One of my favorite food to eat at Jollibee is their Jolly Crispy Fries (Shoestring French Fries). I liked it because it’s plain, and yet flavorful in its own right. For many years, the Filipinos learned to love its simplicity. However, due to competition, the need to innovate and improve their products came to the picture. And on a personal note, I find it unfortunate that Jolly Crispy Fries was not an exemption. They made it a flavored French fries! And I really didn’t like the idea because adding the flavoring powder makes the fries saggy. It’s no longer crispy after the flavoring has been added.
Good thing the management did not face-out the original version of their crispy fries or else, their patrons would really, really freak out. As a Jollibee patron, I am convinced that there’s really no need to change about the fries. They could innovate their other products, just don’t do it with the fries. Its uniqueness and identity is at stake there. Besides, other stalls who sell flavored fries are just around the corner.
