Did you know that the body’s chief energy sources are carbohydrates? Examples are glucose and other simple sugars such as fructose and galactose found in fruit juices, honey and vegetables. Since they are simple sugars or monosaccharides, they are good sources of quick energy.
Other sugars such as maltose, sucrose, and lactose found in malt, table sugar, and milk, respectively are double sugars or disaccharides. Starch is the storage carbohydrate in plants, while glycogen is the storage carbohydrate in animals.
