Cirrhosis of the liver means the liver has shrunk and does not function anymore. Such condition will eventually lead to liver failure. Cirrhosis has different stages. Sometimes, only a portion is cirrhotic and the other portion can still perform its function. One of the common causes of liver cirrhosis are too much alcohol intake. The common symptoms of liver cirrhosis are leg swelling (edema), yellowing of the eyes and skin, enlargement of the abdomen, weight loss, and prominent blood vessels in the abdomen.
